Generators are devices that convert some kind of fuel into electricity for further use. In a serious renewable energy system a generator is used to provide back up power when there is too little wind or sunshine, and when the demand outstrips the current supply.

Generators come in many shapes and sizes, from a 20 pound 400 watt gas operated midget to a 100 KW diesel giant.
