Here are step-by-step instructions on how to assemble this machine correctly. Please be sure to read the disclaimer and the license first !

The first part is the creation of a number of sub assemblies that will then be combined during final assembly:

  • Painting:
    • before the assembly can begin all the metal parts need to be degreased and their exterior surfaces (not in contact with bearings, bushings or shafts) will need to be protected from the weather with a durable paint.
    General assembly guidelines:
    • use copper grease for all bolts except where lock-tite is advised just in case you ever want to be able to take it apart in the future...
    • use your head, if a bolt doesn't start don't force it, figure out what's wrong
    • use the right length and head type bolt for the job
    • avoid scratching the paint while assembling, this will lead to rust later

  • Tail:
    • place the tail vane on the tail boom and push the u-bolts from the back through the holes. Use flat oversized washers and lock washers + nuts to fix the vane to the boom. 3 of these sets should be used, spaced equally over the length of the tail vane.
    • Rotate the boom so the holes that will fix the boom to the housing are facing up when the assembly is flat.
    • Tighten the bolts but not overtight (do not draw them into the cover of the tail).
    • Verify that the boom can not rotate in the U bolts, and if neccesary re-tighten.
  • Housing:

    • glue the wiring box to the lower housing over the slipring window
    • press the upper yaw bearing into the main housing
    • press the yaw shaft / slipring assembly into the housing, make sure you don't forget the retaining spring above the bottom bearing
    • press the bottom yaw bearing into the housing
    • place the bottom retaining spring
    • press the thrust bearing into the back of the upper housing
  • Alternator (assumes machine is supported 'upright'):
    • slide stator on to front of upper housing secure with 6 3/8 bolts, washers, lockwashers and nuts.
    • Feed wires through cable hole in bottom - see notes - of the cable box and connect (see schematic).
    • use rotorlift to lower rotor onto boss on main shaft, secure with 6 3/8 recessed head bots flush with surface of rotor support.
  • Governor
    • press bushings into front support blocks
    • mount support blocks on governor base plate with 3/8 bolts and lockwashers
    • mount blade supports using two thrust bearings around the front support block, a double jamnut just on the inside of the front support block and then thread the weight on, place the end bearing on just as the space gets small enough to catch it. Continue to thread on the weight until the shaft is all the way in and the weight is centered in front of the central hole in the governor base plate.
    • securet the end bearing with a 5/16 bolt, a washer and a lockwasher and some lock-tite (blue).
    • the main governor spar:
      • thread two 3/4" nuts on to the main spar, about 3" from the bottom of the spar
      • add 3/4" washer
      • add the spring
      • add another 3/4" washer
      • add the 'spider'
      • add two more nuts, and tighten them until you start tightening the spring
      • tread on the top stabilizer plate
Further governor assembly will have to wait until final assembly
  • Blades
    • mount the top and bottom blade support blades, the 1/4" plate goes on the 'back' of the blade
